The diameter of the coin is 19.05 millimeters. It consists of 0.8 % copper, 0.003 inches of pure copper, and 99.2% zinc. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">While the quantities and amount vary from time to time. From 1864 till 1982, 95% copper and 5% zinc. The coin weighed 3.11 grams with a tolerance of 0.13 grams. In 1982 half of the pennies were made of copper-plated zinc composition and half of the pennies were solid copper. In 1943 the Congress changed the composition to pure steel plated with zinc.
