The fifty dollars features President Ulysses S. Grant. His portrait has been on fifty-dollar bills since 1913. It is on the obverse side of the fifty-dollar bill. The first $50 dollar bill was issued in 1862.

Who was Ulysses S. Grant?

Ulysses Grant, America’s 18th president also well known as a war hero who led the Union Armies to victory in America’s Civil war. Later Grant was elected the president of the United States from 1869-1877. Ulysses was born in 1822. Before becoming a politician he was commanding general in the Union army. During his tenure, he created the Department of Justice and stabilized the post-war economy. He is featured on the 50 dollars bill due to his great services to Americans in the civil war and after as a president.

He is not the first and only one to be featured on the fifty dollars bill. Before 1913 other historical figures were also featured on $50 dollars. Earlier historical figures were politician Henry Clay, politician John Sherman, Alexander Hamilton, Secretary of State William, Secretary of State Edward Everett, and Benjamin Franklin.
