What is the discount policy for The Home Depot and Lowes? How much discount they are giving and to whom? Well, there is some sort of confusion lately regarding their policy, When the Veteran complained that he was denied access to a discount which he was availing for 10 months. According to Hosko “the store was giving him a discount since September and it was named military discount and he got all the receipts”.
The policy says that discount is available for active military, retired military officials, or those disabled in the service. Furthermore, on the labor, Memorial, and Veterans Day all those who have served the army are eligible for this discount.
If a store doesn’t offer such a discount how come to an individual avail it for almost 10 months, however, it might be due to some sort of confusion during check out, some of the time they just glance at it but upon closer inspection, he was denied access to the year-round military discount.
The Home Depot responded in a statement given to FOX 17. Apologizing for the confusion in their policy. The store said they offer a 10% discount to active-duty military and all veterans on patriotic holidays. such as Memorial Day. Stores are among few ones that provide everyday discounts to active-duty military officials and also to retired and disabled service members. It also gives discounts to their spouses as well.
Hosko said he gets the policy now but it should have been told to him earlier before even he first tried to avail the discount.
Is it right to make such a policy?

In respect to the lifetime, service Veterans have given to the line of duty, they deserve to be equally respected. They should be treated with much more respect.
Another event was reported by Mike Stadelman when Home Depot denied the discount of another Veteran, saying he was not eligible for the discount. According to Stadelman “his grandfather was denied the discount after eight years of Air Force service because he was not injured nor was he in the service anymore”.
After Stadelman posted his experience with the Home Depot on Facebook, the viewers started to call for a boycott of the brand. Well, boycotting isn’t the answer to this. Policymaking of the retail brand should exercise more customer-friendly policies, especially when it comes to the ones who served the country. To many, it is highly disrespectful to discriminate between the Veteran by providing some with discounts and some not.
Home Depot Response
In response to such statements, the store responded that we recognize the Veteran in more broad ways’. Harrigan, spokesperson for The Home Depot says that the Home Depot Foundation has committed $85 million in order to combat the housing crisis. The foundation is also working with various non-profit and military support organizations. In 2014, The Depot Foundation completed more than 1000 projects that included the repair and renovation of disabled veterans’ homes. Critics say that Lowes has the same policy but did not get the same response as Home Depot got.
